Good Products. Wrong Market.

Toast, Clover, and Skytab are legitimate POS systems. They're just not built for Alaska — and the difference shows up when something goes wrong on a Friday night.

The National Brands Are Real Options

Toast has raised over a billion dollars in funding and processes payments for tens of thousands of restaurants. Clover is backed by one of the largest financial institutions in the country. Skytab is a genuinely solid product with modern hardware and competitive pricing.

These are not bad systems. A lot of businesses use them successfully — mostly in Atlanta, Phoenix, Dallas, and cities where their support infrastructure actually reaches.

The problem isn't the product. It's the support model. And in Alaska, the support model is everything.

Where the Gap Shows Up

Support Hours

National POS providers staff their support lines on Eastern and Pacific time. Toast's primary support hours open at 9am Eastern — that's 5am in Anchorage. By the time you're running your Friday dinner rush, their East Coast team is wrapping up for the evening.

When your system goes down at 8pm on a Friday in Alaska, you're calling into a skeleton crew or an after-hours queue. We're in Anchorage. 8pm is still business hours for us.

Hardware Replacement

Every POS company will tell you they offer hardware replacement. What they don't tell you is how it gets to you.

National brands ship UPS or FedEx from mainland warehouses. If your terminal fails on Friday, the replacement order goes in Monday. It might arrive Tuesday or Wednesday in Anchorage. Thursday or Friday if you're in a smaller community.

We're in Anchorage. We stock hardware. We can put a replacement on a same-day flight and have it in your hands before you open Saturday morning.

Local Knowledge

A Toast support rep has been trained to troubleshoot POS software. They don't know what it means to run a restaurant during peak tourist season in a town where labor is scarce and your supplier is a week away. They've never dealt with a Starlink outage during a dinner service.

We have. Our team runs businesses in Alaska. When you describe your problem, we already know the context.

Connectivity

The most common cause of POS downtime in Alaska isn't the software — it's the connection. Starlink fluctuations, ISP outages, hardware failures. Most national providers don't have visibility into your network at all. They wait for you to call.

We standardize on Ubiquiti networking at our installs. We can monitor your site's connectivity remotely. In many cases, we see an outage before you do and we call you first.

"Local Support" Gets Thrown Around a Lot

Every payment ISO and POS reseller says they offer local support. Most of them have a regional sales rep covering a five-state territory who calls in favors with a national call center.

We're in Anchorage. Ben has been doing this for over 25 years. His brother handles support. When you call, you reach someone in the building who knows your account, your system, and what it costs you to be down.

That's not a differentiator. That's just how we run.
